At The Farm

Getting here:
- The trip to the farm takes about 45 minutes from downtown Kansas City, about 30 minutes from Liberty. Please give yourself enough time so that you don’t have to rush and you arrive at the farm by 8 am.
- See Directions to the farm for exact directions.
- Carpool when possible.

What to wear:
- Durable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty is a must. Bring extra clothes to change into, in case we get caught in the rain. Harvesting for the CSA continues rain or shine, except in cases of dangerous weather.
- Sturdy, comfortable shoes make farm work much more pleasant. The grass is often wet in the morning, so boots are a good idea.
- Protect yourself from the sun. Wear breathable clothing, a hat, and bring sunscreen.
- If it is chilly, dress in many layers so that you can adjust with the weather. The temperature change between 8 am and noon is often 30 degrees. If it is cold, bring gloves.

Rain:
- Because members are counting on getting their shares later in the day, harvesting must continue rain or shine. Of course, electrical storms, tornadoes, etc. are the exception. Please prepare for exposure to rain and wet ground if the weather is not dry.
- Bring a warm jacket, if it is cool. Weather at the farm can be different than Kansas City.

Insects:
-If you use repellents in your relationship with the insects, you will need them at the farm. Populations vary with the season and the weather. You will find mosquitoes near the pond and in the woodsy areas.
-Ticks are on the rise in our area. They are most often found in tall grass and under trees. Wear light clothing so you can see them easier. Once home, it’s a good idea to shower and have someone help you inspect those hard to see areas.

Water:
- There is no water supply in the fields. Bring a personal water container of your choice, filled with ice if you like. Water is available in the packing area to fill up your container. We suggest you bring plain water, or electrolyte-containing fluids, not sweetened beverages.

Food:
- Farm work is scheduled to start after your breakfast at home, and be completed at noon mealtime. We encourage you to pack a lunch and join the farmers and other members for a picnic meal after work is completed.
- Bring any snacks you might want or need to maintain your energy while working.

Children:
- Children are welcome at the farm under the supervision of their parents or an appointed substitute. Some families may want to bring an extra adult or teenager to watch young ones.
- We want the farm to be a safe, friendly, and fun place for kids. If you have any interest in helping make the farm more kid-friendly, let us know.
