Allis-Chalmer G Tractor
Gas Engine to Electric Motor Conversion

For the last year anyone who has been out to the farm has heard us talk about how we were planning on converting our gasoline engine Allis-Chalmers Model G tractor to electric. Well, the time has come to make those words come true. Since December 2007 we have been busy putting motors and batteries in motion, sending them to Fair Share Farm, to be fitted to our tractor this February.

The idea for this project came from Rebecca, based on an article she read in Mother Earth News. Several years ago farmer Ron Khosla of Huguenot Street Farm in New Paltz, New York decided the time had come to convert his "old stinky G into an efficient electric tractor." With the help of a USDA SARE grant, he did just that, and posted the instructions of how anyone else could do it on their farm's website (www.flyingbeet.com/electricg).

Each step will be documented for your viewing pleasure on the website, as we progress. Work to date is linked below.

1. Removal of gasoline engine 2/5/08
